This design evolved from Juliet's study of archival collections of pressed seaweed, specifically Sea Beech seaweed. She was fascinated by the connection between land and sea foliage, and by how the pattern could be interpreted as a leafy botanical design rather than something overtly coastal.
Juliet worked with emulsion paint to create thick layers of pigment and colour, bringing texture, depth and a hand-painted quality to each seaweed motif.
The rich red colour featured in this pattern, and throughout the collection, was inspired by the red seaweed discovered along the Pembrokeshire coast. The shade was developed using Red Earth by Farrow & Ball as a colour reference.
This small-scale print is highly versatile and easy to incorporate into a wide range of interiors.
